Trudy Spence Obituary

It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of my dear wife of forty years, Trudy Collene Spence. Trudy left this earth on October 19th, 2022 at the age of 69 years and six months at the Regina General Hospital after undergoing surgery for breast cancer after which she suffered a heart attack and then contracted Covid. A graveside service will be held at a later time. Trudy is survived by her husband Roy Spence of Esterhazy and by her sister Ardene Murphy of Maple Creek along with a number of other distant relatives. Trudy will be greatly missed by her two dear and close friends Treva Sjodin-Brezinski of Yorkton and Elizabeth Hartsook of Eston. Trudy was predeceased by her father Herbert George Rose and her mother, Ena Irene Rose (nee Bennington). Trudy was born in Cabri Saskatchewan and lived her early years in Pennant Station and attended public school in Pennant. She completed her senior matriculation at the Swift Current Comprehensive High School in 1971. Trudy held a number of odd jobs until she was hired by the Pioneer Credit Union (Pennant Branch) where she spent about five years as a teller and often ran the branch herself. She was known for exemplary member service.  Here she met her husband Roy and they were married on July 2nd, 1982 and spent the next forty years together. Our honeymoon was in Las Vegas and we returned many times to that city, the surrounding area and Lake Havasu City with our good friends Norm and Donna Overland. Trudy was unable to build a career of any permanency of employment due to following her husband around to many locations due to his career moves. Trudy worked in a paint and glass store looking after the front end and doing the bookkeeping. She also worked for a time as a bookkeeper for a funeral home and finally handled the bookkeeping chores for our farm “Rainbow Bridge Farms”.   Over the years we resided in Outlook, Eston, Marcelin and Esterhazy. Trudy suffered from ill health all of her life due to contracting Diabetes at age 16. She accepted her fate with dignity and grace. In Trudy’s teen years her father bought her a horse which was half Arabian and whom Trudy called Blaze. She loved this horse greatly and mentioned Blaze throughout her life right up until the end. Blaze blessed Trudy with one colt which she named Toffey. Trudy loved all animals and always looked after them. As Trudy was not blessed with children her cats became her kids and she loved them all. One special Persian cat that we owned during our early married years was named Shamarh and Trudy loved this little girl-cat right up until she had to leave us as a result of cancer. Following that we welcomed two Persian kitties into our home named Tahja and Peezee. They were special in their own way with very distinct personalities and we were blessed to have them with us for over 15 years. Trudy had a bubbly and happy personality and when she would encounter a staff member in the pharmacy or elsewhere who was appearing down she had a way of lifting that person’s spirits and making his or her day a little brighter. That is just who Trudy was. Trudy was a very spiritual person and believed in a higher power and a life after this earthly one.  Donations in Trudy’s memory would be most welcome and can be given to the Canadian (or Juvenile) Diabetes Association, Canadian Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke foundation or in view of her love of animals, to the World Wildlife Fund, Hope for Wildlife or the Nature Conservancy of Canada.
