Sylvia Norgaard Obituary

The family of the late Sylvia Norgaard age 100 years sadly announce her passing at Ituna Pioneer Health Care Centre on Thursday November 19, 2020.

On November 19, 2020, Sylvia Norgaard peacefully went to sleep in death at the age of 100 years.  She was born on February 12, 1920 in her parent’s farmhouse at Wood Mountain, Saskatchewan to George and Morna Hudson.

Upon finishing school, Sylvia joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1939 and served there until 1945 when the war ended.  She then worked in Toronto until 1949, when she came home to help her parents, as her Father was not well.  There she met her future husband Arthur at a wedding dance.  They were married October 14, 1949.

In 1950, they moved to Alberta to find work and began saving for their own farm. She often expressed fond memories of their time in Alberta.  They returned to Saskatchewan, living first at Wood Mountain and then buying their farm at Killdeer. After nine years of hard work and making many good friends, they had an opportunity to move closer to family, and bought their second farm at Ituna, Saskatchewan.

Sylvia was a true farm wife.  She raised big gardens, chickens, milked cows, and helped in the fields.  She enjoyed serving coffee and treats to neighbors that dropped in.  If it was meal time, they were invited to stay.  Many happy family gatherings were held during the years at the farm.  She also loved her cup of afternoon tea before the evening’s work. Our mother set us a wonderful example of a life well lived, how to be a tower of strength during difficult times.

Sylvia was predeceased by her husband Arthur and her twin daughters Bonnie and Barbara.  She is survived by her three children: Norman, Ronald, and Catherine, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

The family wishes to thank all the wonderful staff at the Ituna Pioneer Lodge who lovingly cared for our mother. A private family burial will be held at a later date. If desired, donations may be made to the Ituna Pioneer Lodge.
