Stella (Teichroeb) Akister

Stella was born in Swift Current, SK on March 23, 1952, the first child of Daniel and Mary Teichroeb.

Stella attended Oman School, grade one to eight and WA Beatty Collegiate for high school.  When she started school, she spoke only Mennonite (low) German. Luckily, so did her teacher. She made sure that her brother and sister knew English when they started school.

Stella had her children early when she married Bill Neustaeter on November 27, 1971. She was widowed on September 9, 1972. She married Dave Akister on February 29, 1976, in Swift Current and later that year, moved to Kelowna, BC.  There she started her career with the BMO. They transferred to Ebeneezer, SK in 1978 and moved to Yorkton in 1981. Stella and Dave bought their beloved acreage in 1995 and finally she could have all the flowers she wanted.

She retired from the BMO in 2007 but couldn’t settle down so she started at CIBC. She worked there for another 10 years.

Stella was always very social. She enjoyed curling and bonspiels, yoga, aquacise and dancing. She also volunteered at the Kidney Foundation of Canada, the Yorkton Hospital Gift Shop and New Horizon Senior Centre to mention a few.

Stella passed away peacefully on September 29th, 2025, at the Melville Hospital surrounded by her family.

She was predeceased by her parents, Daniel and Mary Teichroeb, as well as her husbands Bill Neustaeter and Dave Akister.

Stella is survived by her daughter Judy (Darrell) Englot, son Jeff (Vanessa) Akister,  granddaughter Deanna (Stephan) Wolanski, great grandson Makale and great granddaughter Kaydence, her brother Dan (Karin) Teichroeb, sister Lavina Moat, Dave’s siblings Richard (Shirley) Akister, Pam (Dale) Richardson, Wayne (Kelley) Akister, Lynn (Murray) Akister, Chuck (Gail) Akister, as well as many nieces and nephews.

A memorial for Stella and Dave was held October 11, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Christie’s Funeral Home.
