Sharon “Sherry” Lucinne Scobie was born in Langenburg, Saskatchewan, on November 20, 1939, the eldest of three daughters born to Carl and Florence Skaalerud.

Sherry grew up in Churchbridge, where she attended school until Grade 11. She then moved to Regina to attend business college before beginning her working life in Moose Jaw, where she was a receptionist at a local radio station.

Sherry and Hugh were high school sweethearts and were united in marriage on September 8, 1960. Together, they built a life that would span more than five decades. They lived for a short time in Yorkton before returning to Churchbridge, where, in 1965, they built their family home. It became the centre of family life for the next 51 years and would eventually be affectionately known as “Hughie’s corner.”

Above all else, Sherry was a loving and devoted mother. She and Hugh raised six children, and much of her life was filled with the work and activity of a busy family home. She cooked, cleaned, gardened and sewed, while keeping up with six children and all of the interests they decided to pursue. Hockey, figure skating, baseball, softball and countless other activities filled the family calendar, and Sherry became involved in the community through the sports and activities that were part of her children’s lives.

Creativity was woven throughout Sherry’s life. She loved making things and exploring new crafts, from paper tole and floral arranging to sewing and quilt making. There was often a new project underway or a new skill she had decided to try, and she took great satisfaction in bringing her ideas to life.

That creativity eventually became part of her working life. Sherry operated a craft store in Churchbridge and later Petals Plus, her floral shop in Langenburg. After retiring from the store, she continued working through relief shifts at the Langenburg Group Home, where she made lifelong connections with the residents.

Sherry was also unmistakably herself. She was independent, funny and never shy about sharing what she thought. Her family knew that if Sherry had an opinion, there was a good chance they were going to hear it, whether it was requested or not. Her honesty, humour and distinct way of seeing things were simply part of knowing and loving her.

Family remained at the heart of Sherry’s life as her children grew, and her family expanded to include grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The busy years of raising six children became years of watching new generations grow and making new memories with the family she and Hugh had built together.

In her final years, Sherry resided at the Langenburg Centennial Special Care Home. For a time, she and Hugh were able to make the care home another chapter of their life together, spending their evenings visiting with residents and staff.

Her presence will be deeply missed, and the stories, laughter and memories she leaves behind will remain with her family for generations to come.

Sherry was predeceased by her parents, Carl and Florence Skaalerud; her beloved husband, Hugh; her son, Carman Scobie; her granddaughter, Sara Scobie; and her grandson, Lance Kaminski.

Sherry leaves to celebrate her life, her children Kim (Loralee), Mona (Danial), Lisa (Wesley), Darcy (Trevor) and Carla (Mark); grandchildren Lindsay (Sheridan), Kirsten (Dave), Ashlee (Tom), Sean (Robyn), Jennifer, Todd, Cadie (Tengis), Allison (Owen), Vicki (Cody) and Beth (Kyle); great-grandchildren Carson, Kaleb, Ethan, Oliver, Isla, Lukas, Soren, William, Nora and Harper; her sisters Ione (Glen) and Ann (Ron); sister-in-law Beverly Scobie; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
