Ron Michael of Saltcoats passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on February 21st, 2020 at the Regina General Hospital at the age of 59.
Ronald William Michael was born on October 31, 1960 to Donald and Betty Michael and grew up on the family farm near Saltcoats. Ron went to Saltcoats School until Grade Nine and graduated from the Yorkton Regional High School in 1978.
Ron loved working on the farm with his dad, especially during harvest. Ron and Don also shared a love of driving semis and operated their own business, D&R Trucking, during the early 1980s.
Ron loved the outdoors, whether he was hunting, fishing, camping or water skiing with his family as a child or as a parent and grandparent to his own children and grandchildren.
Ron also loved things with motors and wheels, from a young age he was buying and selling motorbikes, snowmobiles, trucks, cars and vans. Luckily, Ron knew his way around equipment and could keep any and all vehicles running!  Welding was another skill which came in handy many times. Photography was an interest which started in Ron’s teenage years. He was always adding “just one more” to the wall.
Ron was hardworking and had a few careers. As a farm boy, it was a great fit for him to work at Cargill elevator in Saltcoats, Yorkton and Rossburn. When Ron wanted a new challenge he purchased two Canada Bread franchises, which he operated for ten years with his family.  After he sold that business he worked as a trucker for EMW until the summer of 2020.
Being a volunteer firefighter was an important and enjoyable part of Ron’s life. He started with the Saltcoats Volunteer Firefighters in 1986.  During the four years the family lived in Rossburn, he also volunteered there.
Ron and Joanne had a long and happy marriage, they were each other’s best friends. They were blessed with Jamie, Warren and Brandi to complete their family. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, who meant the world to him.  Living on their acreage brought them great joy, they enjoyed gardening, hot tubbing, bonfires, quadding and appreciating nature. As a family they also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Their favourite fishing spot is Amisk Lake at T&D Cabins. Ron and Jo have gone there at least once a year for 40 years.
Ron was predeceased by his father Don Michael, James Efonoff (father-in-law) and Maran Nabozniak (grandson).
Ron will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 39 years, Joanne. Their three children, Jamie (Michael) Nabozniak, Warren Michael (Jolene Nistler), Brandi (Michael) Leniuk. His five grandchildren, Grady and Knox Michael, Logan and Mikayla Leniuk and Autumn Nabozniak.
He leaves to mourn, his mother Betty Michael (Blair Chappell), his sister Merle (Dean) Wiley, Joan (Arlan) Maddaford. Mother-in-law Elaine (Allan) Korol, brother-in-laws Brian (Monique) Efonoff, Derrick (Vez) Efonoff, sister-in-laws Brenda (Kelly) Wilkinson, Wendy Efonoff and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Christie’s Funeral Home and Crematorium. The cremation committal will be held at a later date.
