Robert – known to all as Bob – was born in Langenburg, SK, to Herb and Betty Bjarnason on November 22, 1948. The oldest of four children, he grew up in Churchbridge, SK, where he attended school and spent nearly his entire life. After graduating high school, he worked at the Credit Union at various locations before choosing to follow in his father’s footsteps. In 1980 he became an Electrician, earning his Red Seal, and later joining IMC/Mosaic where he proudly worked for 33 years before retiring.
In 1981, Bob married the love of his life, Grace(Litzenberger), and together they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter and purpose. They were blessed with two sons, Brett and Curtis, whom Bob adored. He cherished every moment spent with them – watching them grow, supporting their interests, and often coaching their hockey and ball teams. Summers at Madge Lake were among his favourite family traditions, creating memories that will be held close forever. Bob was immensely proud of his boys: Brett, who became an Instrumentation Technician, and Curtis, who continued the family legacy as a 3rd generation Electrician. His pride in their accomplishments was matched only by the love he had for them.
One of his greatest joys in life was becoming a grandfather. He stepped into that role with ease, always making time to play, listen and to simply be present with his grandchildren. They love sharing stories of him raking leaves for hours, just so they could jump into the piles again and again. He was happiest outdoors with them – playing catch, visiting the park, or just spending unhurried time together. Those moments were where his heart lived and they will forever be cherished.
He treasured every family trip they were able to take. Whether it was Hawaii, Disney, or anywhere in between, he always seemed to run into someone he knew. A quick walk often turned into hours because he’d stop to visit, lend a hand or help fix something for someone in need.
Bob was a community man through and through. He was the person you could call, and he would be there in a heartbeat. A proud and lifelong member of the Churchbridge Lions Club, he poured his energy into serving others and supporting the place he loved. No task was too big or too small – if something needed doing, Bob was already there, lending a hand. In April 2022, he was deeply honoured to receive a Saskatchewan Volunteer Award, a recognition that reflected his years of dedication and the impact he made on so many.
Bob had a lifelong passion for sports – hockey, golf, baseball, and just about anything that brought people together. He devoted countless hours not only to playing, but to ensure these programs thrived within the community. He was a proud and steady presence in the senior hockey club, serving as a captain, and later guiding young players from the bench
when his own playing days were done. His dedication, leadership, and love for the game left a lasting mark on everyone who had the privilege of playing beside him or learning from him.
Bob was truly the best husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle, friend and neighbour. The family wishes to thank everyone in the community for all the kind words, stories and expression of love. Bob touched countless lives with his reliability, his generous spirit and his unwavering kindness. He was hardworking, genuine, and endlessly giving – a remarkable man who will be dearly missed by many.
