Paul Shlahetka Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Paul Shlahetka on Friday, August 6, 2021, at the Gateway Lodge- Canora at the age of 91.

Paul was born on April 28th, 1930 on the family farm in the Whitesand District, son of Mike and Pauline (nee: Popowich). He received his education in the Homestead School.

His early years were spent working on the family farm with his siblings. Paul was a farmer at heart, spending most of his life working the soil and looking after his herd of cattle. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, auction sales and company visiting in his porch. His great love for the land made him a successful farmer. He continued in the footsteps of his ancestors and farmed the same land continuously for 100 years which was established in 1905. He was awarded the ISC Century Family Farm Award for this dedication.

Due to failing health, Paul entered the Gateway Lodge in March of 2015. There he lived with his siblings Anne, Doris and Steve. They spent their first years of life together and they spent their last years of life together.

Paul was predeceased by his parents Mike and Pauline; his brothers Bill, Peter, Fred and Steve Shlahetka; his sisters Anne Spelchen and Doris Mundt; Bill McPhee and great-niece Leanne Matsalla.

He leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his memory his nephew Lorne Mundt, nieces and their families: Adeline McPhee of Yorkton, SK, Doug, Carter and Emma Matsalla, Jody McPhee; Gloria (Warren) Vaudreuil of Canora, SK, Shelley, Shane Stuart, Jeremy Vaudreuil & Joelle Remezoff, Jarret & Amber Vaudreuil, Chaz German, Jeffery & Krystal, Rocky-Bear, Sunny-Rae and Flora-Julez Vaudreuil; Irene (Morlie) Nehring of Springside, SK, Jana & Stephen, Bexley, Mila and Kazleigh Martinuk, Dustin & Shauna, Boey Nehring, and Chad & Leah Nehring; as well as many other relatives and good friends.
