Norman Hinrikson Obituary

Norman Albert Hinrikson was born on August 30, 1950 at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Esterhazy to parents Hinrik Albert Hinrikson, and Ethel Hinrikson (Nee Barnard).

Norman attended early years of school in Spy Hill, SK.  Then when he was still a young boy Norman was trasfired to Moose Jaw, SK where he attended Valley View Centre.  As a young man he moved back to Yorkton and worked at Morris Rod Weeder.  In 1972 he started working at SaskAbilities  where he worked for many years in the woodworking department, and then in the assembly area doing a variety of tasks, which include cutting wires, running errands and yard work.

As Norman aged, he continued to love travelling to surrounding communities to reconnect with the people he knew.  His favorite places were Churchbridge, Langenburg, Canora and his lunch dates at Rawhides in Steenen.  Norman was instrumental in volunteering at many venues in Yorkton and had true community spirit.  He was involved with the Yorkton Terrier Hockey Club, Kinsmen Club, The Western Development Museum, The Yorkton Exhibition Association and always enjoyed going to Haas Nissan to visit with the “Haas boys” (as Normie would say).

Norman is pre-deceased by grandparents Thomas and Annie Barnard; father Hinrik December 1994; Mother Ethel August 2008; and Sister Elaine March 2014.

Norman is survived by brothers Clifton (Betty) Hinrikson and Vernon (Shanon) Hinrikson; Niece Lisa (Jesse)Shamata; Nephew Jamie Hinrikson; and great nephews Holden and Leo Shamata.

A Celebration of life will be held at Christie’s Funeral Home on Friday Dec 20, 2024 at 2:00 pm.   Interment will follow at a later date.  In Lieu of Flowers, donations can be made to SaskAbilities Dementia Program.  Special thank you to the Yorkton District Nursing Home and the doctors and nurses at Yorkton Hospital and the Dialysis Unit.
