It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather Mike Tzupa of Yorkton, Saskatchewan. Mike passed away on Thursday, June 26, 2025 at the age of 88 years old.
Mike was born on March 3, 1937. The son of Anne (Senkiw) and George Tzupa formerly of the Buchanan District. He grew up on a farm near the Good Spirit Lake area. Mike helped out on the farm and at the age of 22 he left to go to work at City Bakery in Yorkton where he met Gena Yarycky. They started dating and were married on Aug 11, 1961 at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Buchanan, SK. They settled in Yorkton and built a life together that lasted over 55 years. Mike got a job at Morris Industries in 1965. He worked 35 years at Morris before he retired.
They were blessed with three children: Perry, Terry and Corinne. His greatest pleasure was his family and grandchildren. His family enjoyed many Christmases and Easters celebrated at their house even after Gena passed. He enjoyed spending time at his cabin at Elbow Lake near Hudson Bay. Mike built both of his cabins and enjoyed them for many years with his children, grandchildren, and extended family. He enjoyed fishing, moose hunting and gardening. He was still very independent until he turned 88. This is when his previous diagnosed cancer caused him to be admitted to the hospital and then Jowsey house where he eventually passed away.
He is predeceased by his beloved wife Gena Tzupa; parents George and Annie Tzupa; brothers Paul (Anne) Tzupa, John (Mary) Tzupa, and Bill (Adeline) Tzupa.
Mike leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his memory: children Perry Tzupa, Terry (Lois) Tzupa and Corinne (Tyrone) Andrychuk; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren; Arial (Rui) Du and their children Aron and Anna, Kyla (Tyler) Mueller and their children Bo and Scotty; Breann (Chad) Wiebe and their son Leo; Mercedes (Chance) Tzupa and their daughter Aubrie and Jesse Tzupa; along with many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Mike’s family wish to extend our sincere appreciation to the wonderful care at the Yorkton Union Hospital and the incredible compassion and care shown at Jowsey House during this difficult time.
Prayers were offered on Thursday, July 3, 2025 at 7:00 pm from the chapel at Christie's Funeral Home in Yorkton.
A Funeral Liturgy was celebrated for Mike on Friday, July 4, 2025 at 10:00 am from St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton.
Interment followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery.
