Mike Filipchuk Obituary

The family of the late Mike Filipchuk age 84 from Lakeside Manor Saltcoats, SK and formally of the Hamton District regretfully announce his passing on Thursday June 4th, 2020 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday June 9, 2020 from 4 pm- 8 pm from the Chapel of Christie's Funeral Home and Crematorium in Yorkton, SK.  A private family service will be held on Wednesday June 10, 2020 at 2 pm from the chapel of Christie's Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yorkton SK with Shelly Morris officiating. Interment to follow at Yorkton City Cemetery. 

Mike Robert Filipchuk was born on May 26, 1936 to Lena (Timofey) and Alex Filipchuk.Husband, father, grandfather, great- grandfather, brother, uncle and friend he meant a great deal too many.He was the second oldest of five children having three sisters and one brother.

Mike attended Bridok School near Donwell, SK.  On October 12, 1957 at the age of twenty-one he was united in marriage to Helen Homeniuk at St. Andrew’s United Church in Yorkton, SK.  Together they bought a farm and a short time later started to raise a family.

They were grain farmers but they also raised cattle, pigs, chickens, geese, turkeys and two goats. Mike enjoyed planting a huge garden spending time outdoors was his passion it brought him hours on enjoyment.  He was a busy man indeed.

Mike enjoyed the company of his children and grandchildren. 

His son Andy bought a farm and they worked together enjoying every minute, seeding and harvesting.  Mike played many card games and loved to drive around with Helen checking out the crops.  When the work was done they went to town for coffee and usually ended up at the casino.  Mike’s dog Gangster was his idol and was always at his side. At the age of 80 Mike retired from farming.  His health started to decline and unfortunately he needed to move to the Lakeside Manor Care Home in Saltcoats where he spent his final days.

Mike was predeceased by his parents Alex and Lena Filipchuk, sister Edythe, and sister Lorraine in infancy as well as grandson Travis and granddaughter Sheena.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 64 years Helen, children Loretta Norberg( Rob Braun) Saltcoats, SK, Andy (Angie) Filipchuk  Ebenezer, SK, Audrey (David)Schwartz Ebenezer, SK and Darcy Filipchuk (Tasha Ross) Springside, SK.  Mike will be missed by his grandchildren Bronson, Amy, Carrie, Amanda, Mitch, and Savannah, as well as his great grandchildren Parker, Paisley, Kayden, Kaybree, Makenna and Maverick.
