The Family sadly announces the peaceful passing of Merle at the age of 77 on December 24, 2024.
Merle was born on Jan 17, 1947, in Russel, MB to the late Gordon and Nordeen Nelson. She grew up in Kelvington, SK before meeting her lifelong partner Gary Weatherby. They married in 1965 and began their family together in Stockholm, SK. They moved to Esterhazy, SK to their farm where they built it together before moving into Esterhazy, then Yarbo, SK. After retiring they moved to Yorkton, SK. In all her homes Merle's passion was her yard, which her and Gary built into beautiful landscapes enjoyed by all their family and friends. Merle worked numerous jobs, before discovering her joy in the field of Homecare which she pursued for 25 years. After retirement, she continued to enjoy working doing landscape and yard planning in Yorkton for Key Motor Group with Gary.
Merle was predeceased by her parents Gordon & Nordeen Nelson, and her in-laws Earl (Bud) & Dorothy Weatherby.
She is survived by her loving husband Gary Weatherby and her beloved pet Bailey. Daughters Shannon Cartwright (Blair Cartwright) and Crystal Murphy (David Murphy). Grandchildren Madison Cartwright (Brady Welsh) and Rasitlin Murphy ( Delaney Downey). And her great grandchildren Payden Welsh and Rinely-Ann Murphy.
Merle is also survived by her brother Gene Nelson (Beryl Nelson) their daughters Michelle (Guy), Marcie (Randy), Melyssa. And brother Brian Nelson (Marge Nelson), and their daughters Kendra (Andrew) and Erin (Tim). As well as her Brother & Sister In-Laws, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Merle was always excited to have her family visit. Cooking with her daughters, enjoying a cocktail on the deck overlooking her yard, and watching her grandkids grow and play, Merle's bright smile was always present. Merle and Gary would travel to visit in Calgary often, as well as down to Estevan, to visit their daughters and family. She passed on her love of gardening to her children and grandchildren, her amazing cooking, and her love of life.
Merle will be missed by all who knew her, including many neighbours, friends, and coworkers that became important people to her as soon as she met them. Her warmth and caring was felt by everyone, and her loved ones endeavor to continue spreading the love for life Merle embodied.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Anyone who wishes to can make a donation the Canadian Cancer Society, the Heart & Stroke Foundation, or the Alzheimer’s Foundation in honor of Merles memory.
