It is with sadness, and also gratitude for a life well lived, that we announce the passing of our loving mother and grandmother, Eleanor “Louise” McLachlan on August 27, 2025.
Louise was born on January 28, 1942 to Millar and Lillian Stevenson in Saltcoats. The eldest of 4 children, she was raised on a farm in the Cut Arm district. She graduated from Bredenbury school and attended Teachers College in Regina. She taught at Chatsworth & Clumber, both one room schoolhouses, then at Saltcoats school, and she finished her career as a longtime teacher of primary grades at Bredenbury school. She enjoyed her dynamic colleagues and loved teaching immensely. She adored working with young children and touched many lives in a positive way.
She married John “Adrian” McLachlan from the Clumber district on July 19, 1963. Louise and Adrian made their home in Bredenbury, and had a long happy marriage of 50 years. They raised one daughter, Lana.
Together they traveled to many places around the world. They enjoyed camping & spending time at their cabin at Burgis Beach. They gardened and took pride in their lovely yard. They made willow chairs and other crafts. They loved to curl and golf together. They spent the good part of many winters in Seattle, Washington with their daughter and her family. How fortunate they were to enjoy a long and active retirement together until Adrian’s sudden passing in 2014.
A strong and independent woman, Louise continued to travel and stay active with golf. She continued to volunteer for the many organizations that meant so much to her. She still made the journey to Seattle each winter and enjoyed spending family time and site-seeing in the Pacific Northwest.
Louise was an active member of the Bredenbury community and gave a lifetime of service to school events of all kinds, as well as the United Church, Minor sports, golf and curling clubs, Winter Lights. In 2022, Louise moved to the Royal Estates in Churchbridge and spent her final years in the warmth of a welcoming community there.
She was a dedicated friend and a mentor to so many. She loved her extended family deeply. She was a caregiver, an excellent cook and baker. She loved gatherings, large and small, and she loved to entertain. Her ability to bring people together and to create celebrations will be greatly missed. She was a force - strong and intelligent, kind and generous, empathetic and caring. We will miss her greatly.
She was predeceased by her husband, Adrian; her sister, Vivian; her parents, Millar and Lillian. She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter Lana, son-in-law Lee and her grandson Mario; her sister, Beverly (Barry) Bradshaw, nephews Dean (Janice), Rick (Maureen) & families; her brother Francis (Wendy) Stevenson, niece Lynn (Evan), nephews Wayne (Janaya), Bill (Margot) & families; nephews Doug (Debbie), Blair (Stephanie) and Rob (Debbie) & families; niece Susan (Darrell) & family and niece (Kate).
Louise’s family would like to thank the staff at the Yorkton Hospital, particularly the nurses and continuing care assistants on One East for their care and compassion with Louise in her final days.
Her funeral was held on Thursday, September 4, 2025 at 10:00 am in the Bredenbury United Church. Interment follwed in the Bredenbury cemetery for family members who will then rejoin guests for lunch at the Bredenbury Hall.
Friends who wish to do so (and/or in lieu of flowers) may make donations in Louise’s name to the Bredenbury United Church.
