Laurel Becker

The family of the late Laurel Becker age 54 sadly announce her passing on June 17, 2021 at the Yorkton and District Nursing Home, Yorkton SK.

Laurel was born to Albert and Marie (Yablonski) Zagrodney on January 7, 1967, in Rose Valley, SK. She was a big sister to her brother Barry Zagrodney. The family grew up on a farm outside of Kelvington SK. She graduated from Kelvington High School in 1985.

After graduation Laurel moved to Yorkton SK.  Where she met and married Blaine Becker in 1987 and they were blessed with two children.  A son, Justin was born in 1989, and a daughter Danielle was born in 1997.

Laurel worked as a waitress at Houston’s and later started a career in the loans department at the Cornerstone Credit Union she continued to work there for 30 years.

She liked to tend to her flowerbeds full of roses, delphiniums, gladiolus, and peonies which were usually pink and purple, her favorite colors.

Laurel also had a huge heart for animals and small critters as well. She would leave bird feed and peanuts for the birds and squirrels living in her back yard. She liked to play with and admire all the animals at the pet shops. She liked to cuddle with her dog Joey affectionately known as “Momma’s Boy”.

Laurel was very active.  She spent her time doing things that she enjoyed, from cooking and baking, to gardening, doing DIY crafts, taking painting classes, or experiencing different ways of traveling, via planes, trains or automobiles. She also spent some time doing volunteer work, helping others and contributing to fundraisers. She loved having get-together's and spending holidays with her family.

Laurel was predeceased by her father Albert, in 2006. She is survived by her mother Marie; brother Barry; and her two children, Justin and Danielle, as well as many friends.

A funeral mass will take place on Wednesday June 30, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. from St. Gerard's Roman Catholic Church, Yorkton SK with Fr. Louis Nguyen officiating.  Interment to follow in the Yorkton City Cemetery.
