Laura Pelletier Obituary

The family of the late Laura Pelletier age 52 of Regina, SK sadly announce her passing on January 15, 2022.

Laura Lee Pelletier, of Yorkton, was born on November 24th 1969, in Kamsack Saskatchewan.
Her mother Sylvia, loved to retell the story of Laura’s birth, recounting the moment nurses placed her new born baby in her arms and the doctor congratulating her on the arrival of yet another baby boy. Already blessed with five boys and only one daughter, Sylvia couldn’t help but feel a tinge of dismay, secretly having hoped for another daughter.
Upon closer inspection, Sylvia was further disappointed to find that nurses had brought her the wrong baby, as the baby she held was what she described as a “cute and chubby baby girl with fair skin and bright green eyes”. Informing the nurses of their mix up, the amused doctor revealed that they were joking and that the beautiful ten pound baby girl was in fact her daughter.
Laura was the baby in a family of seven children, headed by her loving parents Sylvia and Nick Popowich. She had one older sister and five older brothers, all of whom, she shared a unique, special and unbreakable bond with. Her siblings were very protective, loving and caring of her throughout her life, all devoted to her and always doting of their baby sister, even if she jokingly referred to herself as “the black sheep.”
As a child, Laura was given her infamous nickname, “Buffy,” after a character from the tv series, Family Affair. Her family would call her Buffy so frequently, that Laura even thought it was her real name. This nickname would go on to be used by friends and family, throughout her life.
Laura was recognized by many, for her vibrant and outgoing personality. She was very assertive, forthright and straightforward when she spoke. There was no beating around the bush with Laura and if you were doing wrong, Laura was quick to call you out on it. It was this forwardness of hers that often prompted her siblings to jokingly say, “Eeehi, Elmer Cote.”
Most notably, Laura loved to laugh and was known just as much, for her crazy sense of humor and razor-sharp wit. She enjoyed joking with people, no matter where she went and had an innate ability to light up a room and lift people’s spirits through laughter, even at the darkest of times. Laura enjoyed teasing people, but always in good nature and never mean spirited. She was a hard one to tell off, because her non-filtered humor, meant nothing was off limits and she’d always fire back with no hesitation. Laura liked to have the last word and when she did, she would always follow it up, with her unique and infectious laugh, we’ve all come to love.
Her exuberance and social nature, had a way of attracting people to her, but it was her kind, loving and generous ways that secured many lasting family bonds and friendships throughout her life. Laura was always thinking of others and was always reaching out to help those in need, whether it was making herself physically available or offering words of encouragement through facebook or text.
Laura held all family and friends dear to her heart, but she held no one closer  then her greatest loves of all; her children and grandchildren. Laura was an amazing mother, to her babies, Katelyn and Kayleen. As a single mother, Laura built a life for the three of them and raised her girls to be strong and independent, instilling in them the same work ethic and family values, she exemplified in her own life. Her greatest wish for her daughters was for them to be happy and successful at whatever paths they took in life, and for them to serve and love God.
The immense love Laura had for her daughters was only matched by the love for her grandchildren. She thought the world of her five “Handsomes” and two “Pretty princesses,” with them quickly becoming the motivation and driving force behind everything she done.
Laura was a strong woman of faith and an active member of the House of Prayer, where she could be found praising God and playing her prized tambourine, every Wednesdays, Sundays and other church functions and events. She enjoyed travelling to tent meetings and took great comfort in singing the words to her favorite song, “Lead Me To The Rock That is Higher Than I”. With an unwavering love and desire to serve God, Laura often reached out to friends and family, encouraging them to give their life to the Lord and to put their trust in God. She praised and thanked God for the many blessings throughout her life and even at her most trying times, her faith remained unshaken. She had a steadfast belief that “if God brings you to it, he will bring you through it,” and often shared these words of encouragement with the people she loved.
