Kenneth Bahrey Obituary

Sunrise October 21, 1946 ~ Sunset April 13, 2024

With great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved Kenny (Kenneth Alexander Bahrey) on April 13, 2024 following a heart attack at the age of 77.

Kenny was born at the Russell Manitoba Hospital on October 21, 1946 to Katie (Derbowka) and William “Bill” Bahrey.  Growing up in Roblin, Kenny attended the local school where he played baseball.  In his teen years he was a talented pitcher and had a chance to try out with the Montreal Expos. He traveled by bus to Vancouver to try out however the farm team had already left to Florida for spring training.

Kenny met his love Dianna Babiak in 1963 and married August 7, 1966 in Wroxton, Saskatchewan at the Greek Orthodox Church.  They had two children Darren and Tammy.

Kenny worked for the department of highways in the Churchbridge, Saskatchewan area then relocated to Thompson, Manitoba where he worked at the Inco mining company for a five-year term.  Unfortunately, at the mine he had an accident.  It was a very hard time for Kenny to continue, so in 1973 they moved to Richmond, BC where his brother David lived.   Kenny worked for the Richmond School Board doing maintenance, gardening, and yard work.  He then worked his way up to driving the mail truck which he loved. After being in Richmond for 33 years, Kenny retired and moved back to his roots at Lake of the Prairies, Manitoba so he could be close to his mom who was living in a nursing home. After 14 years of living at Lake of the Prairies, they then moved to Manitou Beach for a year and a half, followed by their last move to the Yorkton, Saskatchewan area.

Kenny was a very special gentle man to his children and grandchildren. They adored their Grandpa who enjoyed taking them fishing, playing cards, and watching them play sports.  He always had a listening ear to provide support to them. Kenny also loved picking berries and harvesting the garden.

In his younger years, Kenny and Dianna traveled to Mexico, Spain, Europe, USA, Paris, and Canada.  He especially enjoyed wintering for many years at the fountain of youth – California.

He leaves behind his wife Dianna (married 57 years); children Darren (Cherry, Kaela, Landon, Kiana), Tammy Drummond (Bahrey) (Rob, Liam, Rowan); Brother David (son Todd); and many cousins, friends, and relatives.

Kenny will be deeply missed; we were blessed to have him in our lives.  My memories of you will keep you close to me!  Rest in peace my special man.  I will keep your love letters close to my heart.  Till we meet again on the other side, love you dearly.
