Joyce Inglis Obituary

Catherine Joyce Inglis, lovingly known as Joyce, passed away peacefully at the age of 85 on November 19, 2024.

Born on January 20, 1939, in Saltcoats, Saskatchewan, to the late Frank Torrie and Effie Gibson, Joyce grew up on a farm near Saltcoats. She attended Grahame School and Saltcoats High School before spending a year in Regina working as a telephone operator for SaskTel. It was shortly after that she married the love of her life, Bruce Inglis, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and a large, cherished family. Saltcoats United church became a foundation of Joyce’s spiritual journey, where faith and community intertwined.  Beyond the farm, Joyce’s favorite holiday escapes included Scotland, Hawaii, Barbados and Switzerland.

Joyce is survived by her incredible legacy of love and family:
Her son Rob Inglis (Susan Onda) and their children Jodi (Glen) Walsh, Kellie Onda-Inglis (Cole).
Her daughter Cathy Inglis (Brent Dergousoff) and her children Amber, Scott and Erin Trowell and her great-grandchildren Sophia and Avery.
Her son Lloyd (Jo-Anne) Inglis and his children Bailey ( Kyle), Travis( Amy) , Kaitlin (Robert), and Lloyd’s stepchildren Mitch (Kendall) Doll and Jerrid (Kelsea) Doll and grandchildren Parker and Riley.
Her daughter Joan (Brian) McCusker and their children Rory (Richelle), Chrissie, and Shae.
Her daughter Karen (Ken) Cottenie and their children Alex (Jeremy) and Mia, Karen’s stepchildren Tyler, Megan (James), and Amanda (Shane), and grandchildren Eleanore, Loralie, Grant and Lucy.
Her daughter Nancy Inglis (Shawn Brandstrom) and her sons Sterling, Jaxon, and Noah Staranchuk.
Her son Hudson (DeeDee) Walker and their sons Zaine and Zach.
She is also survived by her siblings Ruth Datema, Don (Joan Feather) Torrie, Jean (Elmer) Leahy, Stewart (Heather) Torrie, Ken (Pearl) Torrie, Helen Jarvis, and Doreen (Brent) Bradford; her sister-in-law Marie Bradley; and countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Effie Torrie, and her beloved husband, Bruce Inglis, her parents-in-law Tom and Chrissie Inglis, her brothers-in-law, Deryl Jarvis, Jock Datema, Lloyd Inglis Sr., Ivan Inglis, her sisters-in-law, Gay Inglis, Shirley Torrie, niece Heather Inglis and nephew Paul Kobayashi.

Joyce was the heart of her family, devoting her life to raising her children, fostering a love for sports and music through participation and competition, and creating a warm and welcoming home. There was never any doubt that her dining table had a place for everyone! Joyce had a gift for making others feel loved and special, whether through her legendary cooking, her radiant laughter, or her heartfelt “grandma hugs,” complete with her signature kisses to the neck. She was a gardening specialist in flowers, vegetables and berries. She shared all her harvest and did not want any of it to go to waste. She also loved her collections of bells, spoons, wind chimes, hummingbirds and rose tea ornaments. She delighted in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, sharing cookies, stories, and boundless encouragement at their events.

Joyce’s life was a testament to love, family, and resilience. Her fierce devotion, cheerful giggle, and warmth touched everyone who knew her, and her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.

A celebration of Joyce’s life will be held on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, open viewing from 9-10 am and the service at 11:00 a.m. at the Saltcoats Community Hall in Saltcoats, Saskatchewan. A reception will follow.

The family asks that donations be made in Joyce’s memory to Esterhazy’s St. Anthony’s Palliative Care or Saltcoats Care Home Recreation Department.
