Irma Joyce Maddaford was born on November 5th, 1931 at Grandma Brimacombe’s place on Section 10-23-3 W2nd to Robert (Bob) and Jocelyne (Joice) Maddaford. She was the second child of five and was raised and educated in the Crescent district. She couldn’t start school at 6 years old as she was not big enough to drive the horses until she was 7 years old . She went to school until Grade 8 and then took Grade 9 and 10 by correspondence. While taking correspondence classes, she worked for Auntie Chris Spokes. She helped Auntie Chris look after twin girls. She also worked for Joyce and Dave Baines, looking after their son, Bill and cleaned homes in the area.
She eventually met and started dating a good looking German boy that became the love of her life. Irma married Frank Schuster on August 7th, 1951. They shared 56 wonderful years together until Frank passed away in 2007. Together, they raised four children, Ken, Valerie, Murray and Shelly. Irma took great pride in keeping a very clean house, especially when she hosted the Aston Ladies Club, she made sure the house was prestine and the windows had to shine. She always had plenty of baking available for company...and her grandchildren and great grandchildren. The brownie cake, scuffles, thimble cookies and pizza pops were the favorites to name a few.
She was also the ambitious farm wife that would grow a large garden, milk cows, feed pigs and chickens and then help drive grain truck during harvest as well as keeping everyone fed. Frank and Irma retired from farming in 1994. Their hard work paid off so they were able to transfer the land to each of their children. They ‘retired’ to a mobile home on their home quarter as they did not want to leave the farm. They were able to help their children by either driving or fixing equipment, making meals and helping with the grandchildren.
After Frank’s passing in 2007, Irma remained on the farm until 2013. She then moved to Yorkton into Independent Manor where she made some very good friends that liked to play crib or shuffleboard and go to the casino!!
Irma had many hobbies. Besides being an excellent cook and baker, she could sew clothes, knit sweaters for all of the new babies that came to the family and their friends, crochet table cloths for the grandchildren and most recently she had started making blankets for babies and adults alike. Everyone in the family has some of these items to treasure.
Irma is predeceased by her spouse, Frank Schuster; her parents, Robert and Joyce Maddaford, her siblings, Jean, Floyd, Lorne and John; her in-laws, John and Phyllis Schuster, Joe Burfitt, Edna Maddaford, Lesley Maddaford; her granddaughter Rene Watrych; her great-granddaughter Ariel Parker.
