Glenn Laycock Obituary

Glenn Laycock was born on the family farm in the RM of Saltcoats (NE28-22-2W2) on March 8th 1930.  Glenn spent his life on his farm until he was hospitalized in August of 2024.  Glenn passed away peacefully on October 21, 2024 where he was surrounded by his loved ones.

Glenn was predeceased by his parents Bill and Ivah (Baines) Laycock; sister Elaine (Laycock) Ferch; father and mother-in-law Ranald and Golda (Clark) Hood; and older brother who passed at birth.

Glenn is survived by his loving wife Joyce (Hood) Laycock, who he shared almost seventy two beautiful years with.  He is also survived by his four sons: Leigh and Brenda (Miskolczi) Laycock; Michael and Sheila (Kasprowicz) Laycock; Ken and Darlene (Kasprowicz) Laycock; Eric Laycock; and his brother Lyle Laycock.  Glenn also has many grandchildren who survive him, and many more great-grandchildren.

Glenn lived his life as a farmer, growing up on the farm he was born on.  He was carried by his strong work ethic at a very young age, pushing him to provide for his future and family.  At the age of 19, he took training for a Diesel Mechanics Course, which brought him to Edmonton for a practicum where he graduated.

Back home, Glenn created a family and life he was extremely proud of.  He took pride in them as he did the rest of his life. Glenn would find time to take his family on trips to the lake, mostly to Good Spirit.  Glenns’ pride extended to everything in his life.  His hard work allowed him to purchase many vehicles, including a 1965 Dodge he was very proud of.  Through his work ethic he was also able to build a new home in 1982, on the farm where he grew up.  When he  wasn’t working on the farm and with his family, he drove a school bus around the community for nearly 9 years.  His dedication is shown here, where he would even wear a tailormade bus uniform!

Glenn and his wife Joyce travelled the world together throughout their marriage.  They drove across Canada and America.  Their trips brought them from Alaska to Nova Scotia, the only thing that kept them from going further was the bridge to Prince Edward Island had not been built yet.  In the United States they traveled to many places including New Mexico, Arizona, Texas, Florida, and Georgia.  They also went on trips to Cuba, Costa Rica, Mexico, Jamaica and Hawaii.  Glen had many adventures throughout his life such as a plane ride in an open cockpit of a 1934 plane in Florida; and enjoyed watching fighter jets take off in New Mexico.

Glenn did not slow down as he aged, at ninety-one years old Glenn purchased an electric bike.  Glenn had always wanted a Harley, the farmers in the area had a good laugh the time he took a friend’s motorbike to coffee row wearing his Jamaican dreads.

He took his electric bike everywhere, biking from his home in Saltcoats and Bredenbury and every backroad in between.  His pride persisted, and he was reluctant to use the electric motors unless facing intense wind or steep hills.

Glenn had love for his community too, where he raised money for Saltcoats Care home.  He got pledges to drive his bike to Round Lake at age 91 to raise money for the cause.  This trip also served as a tribute for younger Glenn, as he fondly remembered being a boy and making the journey, only to be caught in a thunderstorm with his dad.  With the help of family and the communities, Glenn was able to collect donations exceeding $5000.

The following year at age 92, Glenn pushed himself further.  He decided to make the ride from his farm in the RM of Saltcoats to Russell, MB, a distance of almost eighty kilometers!  Glenn chose to raise money for Breast Cancer research and raised over $5000 again.

Glenn’s life was full of adventure, family, hard work and love.  He was a father, husband, and farmer.  He will be missed by all.
