Gladys Nagy Obituary

Gladys Violet Nagy (Solomon) passed away on December 14, 2023 at the Yorkton and District Nursing Home surrounded by her loving family. Gladys was born October 26, 1933 on the family farm in the Graham District north east of Saltcoats to John and Lillian Solomon. Like all young people of that time, she helped her parents with the work on the farm.

On November 8, 1951 at the Saltcoats United Church with Rev. Morland officiating she married the love of her life James Nagy from the Cutarm District and they celebrated over 70 years together raising four sons and one daughter. In 1954 they purchased the west half of the home section from James' father and started to farm on their own. Over the next few years, they added more land to their farming operation. In 1975 and ensuing years her sons joined the family farming enterprise. In 1985 Gladys and James semi retired to Yorkton with mixed feelings.

Gladys was a hard worker, she milked cows, grew a large garden and sewed. She loved selling Tupperware and in 1976 she went to work at the new K-Mart store where she worked for many years. Gladys' dream was to become a teacher but life took her down a different path but she still installed her knowledge and work ethic to her children and grandchildren. In her younger years she was an avid softball player. This skill was also passed on to her family.

Gladys had a green thumb which meant she always had a bountiful garden, beautiful flowers, and many houseplants. Anyone that visited around Christmas will remember her Xmas cactus which bloomed in all its glory.

Gladys and James enjoyed travelling with their various campers and motorhomes all over Canada and USA. They enjoyed their bus trips and winter holidays to Hawaii, the Caribbean and Mexico. On these trips they made many life long friends. All of these trips were well documented in her many scrap books that she kept.

Gladys was predeceased by her husband James on May 18, 2022 her parents John and Lillian Solomon, her parents-in-law Jim and Mary Nagy, her son-in-law Jack Sinclair, her sister Evelyn Unyi, her brothers-in-law Andy Nagy, Joe Horvath, Charlie Sterenka and Elmer Unyi, also her sisters-in-law Helen Horvath and Pearl Nagy.

She is survived by her son Gordon (Iris) and their children Brandon (Amanda), Amanda (Cam), Marshall (Jasmine) and Nicole (Gordon): her son Harold (Eileen) their children Shelley (Eli) and Clayton (Farrah; her son Dennis (Audrey) their children Megan (Tom), Brooke and Taylor; her son Gary (Sharlene) and their son Tyler (Meagan); and her daughter Suzanne and her children Kendall and Karlie; her fifteen Great Grandchildren; Sisters-in law Margaret Sterenka and Patsy Nagy as well as many nieces and nephews.

In her retirement years she enjoyed fishing, playing cards and family gatherings. Gladys always had the coffee pot on with her famous home-made donuts and poppy seed strudel (ratash). But above all Gladys' love for her family was the most important thing in her life.

Urn Bearers were her Children Gordon, Harold, Dennis, Gary and Suzanne. Honorary Urn Bearers her Grandchildren Shelley Nagy, Brandon Nagy, Clayton Nagy, Amanda Loveless, Marshall Nagy, Nicole Kell, Megan Dehod, Brooke Nagy, Tyler Nagy, Kendall Sinclair, Taylor Nagy and Karlie Sinclair.

The family would like to thank the Bentley, Yorkton and District Home Care, and the Country Meadows in the Yorkton and District Nursing Home for their excellent care and kindness towards Gladys in the last few years. Also, to Christie Funeral Home for their guidance through this difficult time.
