Eunice Nagy Obituary

Eunice Nagy passed away at the Yorkton & District Nursing Home on April 25, 2024. She was 94 years of age.


Eunice was the oldest daughter of Paul and Gertrude Maccan. She attended Oak Hill School and graduated from St. Henry’s School in Melville.


Eunice married Elmer on July 3, 1950. They settled in the Oak Hill district and farmed for 50 years. The had seven children. Eunice was a busy, hard working mother who raised a large garden, made bread weekly, canned and preserved fruits and vegetables and made three meals a day for a household of nine. She milked cows, raised chickens, geese and turkeys and was in charge of keeping the yard in order.


Eunice and Elmer were devote Catholics. They attended Mass where ever their travels took them. Eunice was an active CWL member in both Melville and Yorkton. She made perogies and worked many funerals as part of her CWL service.


Eunice and Elmer retired to Yorkton in 1998. Eunice enjoyed city life. She took in the Sask Arts Council shows and her grandchildren’s sports and concerts. She loved watching figure skating and was a very proud of Nicole’s figure skating accomplishments. The fridge was covered with pictures of Nicole in her beautiful costumes at Figure Skating Competitions all over Canada. She also enjoyed being in Yorkton and quick visit from anyone who might pop by.


Eunice and Elmer enjoyed camping and fishing. They also travelled to Expo ‘67 in Montreal, to Hawaii, Disney Land and the Pasadena Rose Bowl Parade, The Calgary Stampede, to Mexico City, where they even attended a bull fight. Eunice, her mom and her sisters travelled to Nova Scotia to visit Sister Ivy. Their winters were spent in Mesa, Arizona where they square danced, played shuffle board and enjoyed an active social life.


Eunice and Elmer moved to Caleb Village in Melville in 2013 where they enjoyed the social activities and the people. Mom said “It was the best place for old people to live”. Eunice moved to the Norquay Nursing Home in 2019 and to the Yorkton and District Nursing home in 2023.


Eunice was predeceased by her husband Elmer (2015), two sons Murray (1983), Brent (2002), daughter-in-law Florence (2007), her parents and siblings, Delphine, Patrick, Lorretta, and many family members and close friends. Eunice leaves to cherish in memory, her children, Lois (Gerald) of Crystal Lake, Sk, Lynn (Brent) of Melville, Sk, Lee (Wesley) of Yorkton Sk, Glenn (Colleen) of Yorkton, Sk, Jasey (Susan) of Melville, Sk, daughter-in-law Carolyn of Yorkton, Sk, 19 grandchildren and 38 great grand children; her sister, Sister Ivy of Antigonish, NS, two sisters-in-law, Ida Daggot of Invermere, BC and Ethel Jones of Rimbey, AB, as well as many many nieces and nephews.
