Erna Tillman Obituary

Erna Nora (Liebrecht) Tillman was born on March 5, 1935, on the Liebrecht farm at Stornoway.  She was the youngest of seven children born to George and Elizabeth (Mehling) Liebrecht.  She attended school and completed grade 8.  On June 14, 1954, she married Edmund Tillman at the Stornoway Lutheran Church.  They settled in the Springside area where they farmed and were blessed with their first son Garry.  From 1956 to 1961 they resided in Edmonton and welcomed daughter Betty and son Randy. They then returned to the Springside area where they purchased and worked on the farm until moving to town upon retirement in 1992. In March of 2024 Mom moved to the Bentley in Yorkton.  Although she only resided there a short time, she loved it and said that she wished she had moved sooner.

Mom was the ultimate farm wife.  She could whip up a meal for ten people without any notice.  Mom would do it all, from milking cows, feeding animals, canning vegetables from a huge garden along with hauling grain and going to town for parts all one day.  Mom was very active in the Lutheran church and the Springside community both before and after retirement. She taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and was a member of the LWML. She was a lifetime member of the Springside Senior Citizens Drop-In Centre and canvassed for the Canadian Cancer Society.

She had many hobbies which included bowling, fishing, curling, golfing, knitting, cross stitching, crocheting, gardening and baking.  Her greatest joy was spending time with her children, grand children and great grand children and playing cards with family, friends and neighbors.  Her grandchildren and great grandchildren are really going to miss her animal cookies.  Mom was a very organized, strong minded and determined person.  Her own words of wisdom appear on the back of this bulletin.

Mom was predeceased by her parents, loving husband Edmund, 4 sisters, 2 brothers, 1 sister-in law and 7 brothers- in-law. She is survived by her children Garry (Kim), Betty Bailey (Doug), Randy (Sheila); grandsons Curtis (Jennifer), Graham (Jennifer), Levi (Ashley), Cody (Gillian), Darren (Emma); great grandchildren Winston, Prairie, Quinn, Zoey, Carter and Myla; 5 sisters-in-laws; 1 brother-law; numerous nieces, nephews, friends and best friend Jeanette Karapita.

We as a family would like to sincerely thank Dr. Van Heerden, Gurjit and staff at the Bentley, nurses and staff at the Yorkton Hospital and Jowsey House for all care given to Mom.
