The family of Elaine McCredie announced the passing of their fun and joyful mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend on the morning of September 28th, 2024.
Elaine Marian McCredie was born to James (Buster) and Myrtle McCredie on February 13, 1955, in Yorkton. She was the daughter that rounded out the family with big brothers Earl and Vernon (Buck) welcoming her home to the small mixed farming operation near Saltcoats. She was named after the ship that brought Buster home from World War II. She went to elementary school in Saltcoats and then graduated from the Yorkton Regional High School.
She attended Wascana Institute in Regina to become a Licensed Practical Nurse but did not finish before returning home to marry Desmond Persicke on October 25, 1975. They eventually settled in Gerald and raised three daughters, Leanne, Shannon and Kelly. She developed many close friendships with people like Heather Drotar and Doreen Andrusiak while in Gerald and helped tend to a massive garden – and did much canning and preserving of the harvest, which was something she excelled at but never really loved. She worked as a cleaner at the Langenburg Care Home beginning in 1988 up until an accident forced her retirement in 2011 and she moved to Yorkton. She and Desmond divorced in 1995.
Mom built a life that she loved and was soft-hearted, enthusiastic and resilient. She never forgot a birthday and made sure to send birthday cards to everyone she loved and valued. She was fiercely proud of her Scottish heritage, and she loved to listen to country music on the radio, with her favorites being oldies and especially Randy Travis and Elvis. She had great friends that she loved to call and connect with – Viola Hermanson, Bernice Graham, and Bugs Veal are all very treasured friends among many. She had a fantastic memory and loved to remember the good times she had with people like Jean Verhelst, Grace Ward and her sister-in-law Brenda Suru (Persicke). She also cherished her memories of her many cousins that she grew up with. She missed her brother Earl for the rest of her time after he passed away in 1982, and she was always watching over Buck (or she called him Buckie) to ensure he was looked after.
She is survived by her daughters Leanne (Scott Weaver, Aida, Braith), Shannon (Dewayne Wagner, Reid, Cole, Beth) and Kelly (Darryl Harvie).
