Dave was born at Elrose, SK, June 10 1952. He was the second child of Donald and Annette Akister of Tuberose, SK. He grew up on the family farm, immersed in all the adventures that farm life presents. He received his elementary education in a little white school house in Kyle, SK, then he graduated from Kyle Composite School., He was an avid student and found a love of woodworking and curling on the school team, which he enjoyed for many years.
He launched a 17 year career with Thompson Newspapers right out of high school, working his way from photographer to award winning journalist and managing editor.
Dave joined Broke & Assoc in 1984 as an Account Exec., buying out his partners in 1990. Dave’s company was hired in 1991 by Saskatchewan Seed Growers Association (SSGA) to streamline the administration and find a new executive director. The board hired Dave instead.
Dave was with SSGA for more than 27 years, he was involved with many aspects of SSGA, helping to bring it to what it is today.
In 1995 Dave and Stella moved to an acreage north of Yorkton, where he spent many hours landscaping and building, usually accompanied by his granddaughter, Deanna.
Dave passed away peacefully, Saturday, Sept 13, 2025 at Yorkton General Hospital, surrounded by his family.
Dave was predeceased by his parents Donald and Annette Akister.
He is survived by his wife Stella; daughter Judy (Darrell) Englot; son Jeff (Vanessa) Akister; granddaughter Deanna (Stephan) Wolanski; great-grandson Makale; great-granddaughter Kaydence; siblings Richard (Shirley) Akister, Pamela (Dale) Richardson, Wayne (Kelley) Akister, Lynne (Murray) Akister, and Chuck (Gail) Akister; as well as many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life was held for Stella and Dave on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at 2:00 pm at Christie's Funeral Home.
