The family of the late Bob Hume sadly announce his sudden passing. Bob’s larger than life presence made a profound impact on his wife, children, grandchildren, family and friends.Robert Arthur Hume came into this world on Sunday, March 30th at 5:25 a.m. on the tail of a snowstorm in 1947. He was the third of six children born to Arthur and Elsie (Dickson) Hume. He received all his formal education in Saltcoats.
As a teenager time was spent helping on the Art and Dorothy Klause farm and he never lost his love for that way of life. After retirement he spent many hours helping Dean Spokowski with his cattle, Verne Trowell on his grain farm, and Rudy and Tory Tangedal hauling silage. Bob loved being outdoors.
In 1968 Bob began working for Saskatchewan Government Telephones and this became his career. He made many friends with his co-workers who remain so to this day.
In 1968 Bob met Wendy Clark from Bredenbury and in 1968 they were married. They raised three sons, Rob, Jason and Brad.
Bob was a very community-minded person. Involved in Minor Sports coaching the boy’s baseball and hockey teams. He was a volunteer firefighter and Fire Chief in Saltcoats. He served as a town councillor and as Mayor-a very hands-on Mayor, often helping Gordie Kerr with town maintenance on his day off work.
After retirement Bob became an active member of the Sasktel Pioneers, many years as President of the Yorkton Club. Many hours were spent volunteering for their activities. He especially enjoyed taking the vintage SGT truck to parades around the province. He was also commandeered into many tasks when Wendy joined the Beautification Committee, the results of which will be around for years to come.
Bob enjoyed woodworking, listening to music, coffee with friends and country drives.
His heart was full of love for the grandchildren that came into his life. First Carter and Ashley, then Halle and Eric and great grandson Jayce.
Bob had an over abundance of common sense, and was amazing at figuring out how to do anything.
He was predeceased by his parents, parents-in-law, King and Emma Clark, sibling Margaret Kelly, brothers-in-law Roy Partridge, Harry Paus, Frank Bryski, Jim Kelly, Ron Clark and Rick Clark.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Wendy; children Rob, Jason (Katelynn) and Brad (Julie). Grandchildren Carter (Cassie) Hume, Ashley Hume, Halle Hein-Hume, Eric Hein-Hume and great grandson Jayce. Also by siblings Jean Bryski, Norene Hume, Dave (Donna) Hume and Dianne (Raymond )Ungarian and nieces and nephews as well as their children.
Bob will always be remembered for his huge sense of humour, which he passed on to his boys. He could make friends with strangers.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday,Nov. 8, starting at 1:00 p.m. in the Saltcoats Town Hall.
