Anna Kirstuik Obituary

Anna Kirstuik of Yorkton passed away on October 18, 2022 at the age of 99 years.  Anna was born to Metro and Anastasia Fedak on their family farm in 1923.  She was the third of 13 children.  Her siblings consisted of 9 brothers and 3 sisters.  Anna attended public school in Tuffnell and Sheho.  Her attendance at school was sporadic not because of indifference but out of the necessity of having to help out on the family farm.  When she did attend school she participated in many activities.  Anna was accepted to Teacher’s College at Moose Jaw Normal School.  After graduation she taught at several one room schools in the Parkerview, Sheho, and Theodore areas.

In 1950 she married William Kirstuik.  They built a General Store in Parkerview in 1952 and operated it for many years.  She continued to teach at Chiselhurst school and then at Parkerview school.  Their only child, David was born in 1953 during their time in Parkerview.  They eventually sold the store in Parkerview and moved to Foam Lake but she commuted daily to Ituna where she taught.  They briefly lived in several other cities before finally settling in Yorkton.  After retiring from teaching Anna became bored with retirement and worked for several years as a nurse’s aide.

Life did not come to a standstill after retiring from her short career in nursing.  In their later years Anna and William travelled extensively visiting Florida and Arizona several times.  They also visited Hawaii and went on a tour of Europe.  Staying closer to home they often went camping and fishing.  Anna and William had a passion for gardening.  They won awards several times for Best Home Grounds from Yorkton in Bloom.  Anna’s other passion was baking and she won many trophies at Canada’s National Ukrainian Festival in Dauphin, Manitoba.

Anna was predeceased by her husband William off 57 years in 2008 and by several of her brothers and sisters.  Anna leaves to cherish her memory her son David of Yorkton, several brothers, one sister, and many nieces and nephews.

In accordance with her wishes a private funeral service was held at Christies Funeral Home on Wednesday October 26, 2022.  Interment followed in Yorkton City Cemetery.
