SCHUSTER, Alice passed away in Dadeville, Alabama, from respiratory failure on February 3, 2025, at 80 years of age. Alice was born in Canora Hospital on July 2, 1944, to Metro and Dora Hnatuik. She was the second of five children. Alice attended school in Bredenbury, then Saltcoats High School. Her love of education and children led her to Teachers College in Regina, then an Education degree from the University of Saskatchewan.
Alice married her dear husband, Bill (Valentine) Schuster, on November 16, 1963, in Bredenbury. They spent almost 60 years married and had four children: Sherry (Bob), Robert (Janice), Ron (Kim), and Cori (Peter). Alice had a long teaching career alongside raising the kids, helping on the farm, and growing a huge garden. She lived on the farm her whole life.
Alice and Bill were blessed with nine grandchildren: Jared (Brooklyn), Maddie, Evan (Brittany), Aidan, Eric, Eliot, Megan, Nicholas, Jacob; and two great-grandchildren: Luka and Lowen. These children brought such love and happiness to her life. She enjoyed being with her kids and grandkids and would spend many weekends with them, even months down in Alabama.
Alice is pre-deceased by her husband Bill, parents Metro and Dora, baby brother Darcy, and parents-in-law Nick and Magdalena. She is survived by her siblings (Irene, Florence (Keith), Allan), children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Alice will be remembered by her family and friends for her kindness and laughter, her love of children, always bringing life and joy to the room through her sense of humour and witty comebacks, and her pride in her Ukrainian heritage. Alice was an elementary school teacher for 30 years and touched the lives and hearts of all who were in her classroom and staffroom. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
In keeping with Alice’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life will be held in the spring.
