It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Stephen (Steve) Shlahetka on Monday, October 21, 2019 at the Canora Hospital at the age of 84 years.
Stephen (Steve) was born on October 28th, 1934 on the family farm in the Whitesand District, son of Mike and Pauline (nee: Popowich). He received his education in the Homestead School.
His early years were spent working on the family farm with his siblings. Steve never left the farm for too long, always returning to paint all the buildings and grow large gardens. Steve made sure there were always sunflowers blooming all over the yard. Steve loved life – he was an entertainer at heart. He was the family social butterfly. He was full of mischief – loving to tease
everyone. He was known for his story telling whether the stories were true or not. Music was in his heart – he could play his accordion at the drop of a pin and sing along. You could always
find him at a dance on a Saturday night. Steve will be remembered for the twinkle in his eye, the dance in his step and the music in his heart.
Due to failing health, Steve entered the Gateway Lodge in October 2014. There he lived with his siblings Anne, Doris and Paul. They spent their first years of life together and they spent their
last years of life together.
Steve was predeceased by his parents Mike and Pauline; his brothers Bill, Peter and Fred Shlahetka; his sisters Anne Spelchen and Doris Mundt.
He leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his memory his nephew Lorne Mundt, nieces and their families: Adeline (Bill) McPhee of Yorkton, SK, Doug & Leanne, Carter and Emma
