Born on a farm in Dixon, SK, where he lived and worked until 1941. In June of 1941, Leonard joined the army and went overseas. He was in France on July 6, 1944 for the Battle of Normandy. He served in France and Belgium and Germany with the 2nd Division.
In January 1946, he returned to Canada. He was discharged from the services in February of 1946 and returned to Saskatchewan shortly after. He worked on a dairy farm for four years before starting a career that spanned 36 years with CN Railroad. He retired in 1986.
