Barbara Poier Obituary

I, Barbara (Armbruster) Temple Poier was the first generation born in Canada to Joseph and Annie (Trelenberg) Armbruster. My father was born in Austria in 1897 and he arrived in Canada with his parents in 1902. My mother was born in Lutzk, Wolkynea, Russia in 1902 and she came to Canada with her parents in 1907.

I was born April 24, 1924 on the family farm on Section 21, Township 21, Range 8, Meridian 2 in the Neudorf, Saskatchewan area. I was baptized May 4, 1924 in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church at Duff, Saskatchewan by Pastor John Wolfe. My sponsors were my aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Louie Lutz. The Bible verse chosen to be read at my baptism was Luke Chapter 18, Verse 16:
“But Jesus called them not to
hinder the children as such is
           the kingdom of God. “
On April 10, 1938 I was confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church in Neudorf by Pastor Carl Schmidt. The Bible verse read that day was Mark Chapter 10, Verse 15:
“Truly I say to you whoever
            does not receive the kingdom
if God like a child shall
            not enter heaven.”
In 1927 at the age of 3, my parents moved from Neudorf, to Fenwood, Saskatchewan. When I was 6 years old I attended Dawn School in the Fenwood area. In 1931, my family moved back to Duff where I completed grade 8 at Pheasant Hills School, but was unable to return to my studies as I needed to help on the family farm.
On November 1, 1942 I married Peter Temple from the Finnie District. Pastor Shira officiated this union at Christ Lutheran Church in Neudorf. Peter and I were blessed with 4 children; twin sons Donald and George, daughter Shirley, and son Vernon. Together, we farmed at Finnie until 1959 at which time we moved to the Saltcoats, Boakview District in Saskatchewan where we continued to farm until 1972. Due to Peter’s failing health we retired from farming and moved to Yorkton. In Yorkton, we joined St. Paul’s Lutheran Church where I was an active member with the church choir and the Ladies Aid Group. In 1973, I began employment with Johnnie’s Dry Cleaners as a presser and seamstress. Peter passed away September 23, 1978.
On October 17, 1981 I married Harold Poier of McNutt, Saskatchewan. This union was officiated by Pastor Jerke at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Yorkton. In 1990 we joined Zion Lutheran Church in Yorkton where I was an active member of the church choir and L.W.M.L (Lutheran Women’s Mission League). Harold passed away December 17, 2000. On July 5, 2002 I moved to Fairview Arms in Yorkton where I was able to continue with my love of gardening, sewing, crocheting, cooking, and socializing. On July 11, 2014 I moved to Aspen Bluffs Villa where I enjoyed living until my passing.
I was predeceased by my parents Joseph (1970), and Annie (1993); in laws John and Katherine ( Schramm) Temple; brothers Samuel (1932), Manuel (infancy), Ernest (1998), Leonard (2007), and most recently Fred ( March 31, 2018); sisters Lillian (infancy), Irene Koroll (2014); my infant sons Donald and George Temple (1943), son Vernon (1997) and his wife Sandra (Hanson) Temple (2011); my husband Peter Temple (1978), my second husband Harold Poier (2000).
