Alex Melnechenko Obituary

Funeral Services were held on Monday, March 8, 2010 from the Chapel of Christie's Funeral Home in Yorkton, SK with Reverend Faye Greer of Westview United Church officiating. The interment followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Elmer Bezborotko, Glenn Parr, Larry Kitzul, Donald Solomon, Ernest Churko and Dave Dareichuk serving as casket bearers.Friends so wishing may make donations in Alex's name to the Theodore Health Care Centre, Theodore, SK. ""Alex Melnechenko of Theodore, Saskatchewan passed away on Monday, March 8, 2010 at the Theodore Health Centre. He was 65 years of age. Alex was born on July 28, 1944 in the Parkerview District of Saskatchewan, the oldest child of John and Irene (nee Ozirney) Melnechenko. He grew up in the Parkerview District and attended Okna and Sheho schools. After completing his education, Alex began his carpentry career. He worked for a number of years for Bill ""Bill the Builder"" Melenchuk, specializing in roofing and shingling. Many friends and neighbours remember how strong he was and how hard he worked. In his younger years, Alex was an avid fisherman and participated in sports especially curling. As he got older he became an armchair athlete, enjoying watching all sports on television, but he especially loved hockey. Just prior to his passing, Alex spent many happy hours cheering on the Canadians athletes as the competed in the Vancouver Olympics. Alex was predeceased by his parents, John and Irene Melnechenko. He leaves to mourn his passing, his sister, Dora of Yorkton, SK as well as many cousins, other relatives and many good friends.
